Sometimes you a tooth needs to be pulled usually due to disease, crowding, or trauma. The dentist will take x-rays, numb the area and extract the tooth. The procedure is relatively painless. Your mouth will heal itself with a blood clot and the bone will heal over a period of time. It’s important to keep your mouth and the area clean. Avoid smoking or using straws along with rinsing your mouth out too hard. You may experience swelling. If you do, apply a cool cloth to the area. Your dentist will go over any risks and care that needs to be taken post extraction. You may feel a bit sore in the extraction area for a few days.
Tooth extraction is relatively quick for visible teeth. Teeth that are broken, below the surface, or impacted may need a more involved procedure.
