Porcelain and gold crowns in Northeast Columbia
Columbia dental crowns
Brickyard Dental Group provides dental crowns for cracked, worn, heavily filled, or root canal-treated teeth. Each crown is planned for the individual tooth, with porcelain, all-ceramic, and gold options available.
When a tooth needs a crown
A crown is usually recommended when a tooth is too damaged or weakened for a filling alone.
But a Columbia dental crown is not always the answer. Smaller problems may be treated with bonding or a filling, while a tooth that cannot be saved may need an implant. Your dentist will recommend the option that fits the tooth, not a one-size-fits-all treatment.
A crown may be needed after
Porcelain or zirconia
Porcelain
Porcelain crowns are often chosen for highly visible teeth because they can closely match the color and translucency of natural enamel.
Zirconia
Zirconia crowns are stronger and more resistant to fracture, which can make them a good fit for back teeth or patients with heavier biting forces.
The right material depends on where the tooth is, how much pressure it takes, and how natural you want the final result to look.
Why crowns take two visits
Brickyard Dental Group uses a dental lab rather than same-day chairside milling, so a crown takes two appointments with a temporary crown in between.
First visit
Your tooth is prepared and scanned or impressed, and then a temporary crown is placed to protect it while the lab crafts the final one.
Second visit
Your final crown is checked for fit and bite, then cemented in place.
What the lab route means for you
Same-day crown technology exists, but lab-fabricated crowns typically allow for more precise control over shape, shade, fit, and translucency. The extra appointment can be especially worthwhile for teeth that show when you smile, where small details make a bigger difference.
When there is not enough tooth for a crown
If decay or a fracture extends below the gumline, your dentist may recommend crown lengthening to expose more of the tooth and create a stable foundation for the crown.
Brickyard Dental Group performs crown lengthening with traditional and laser techniques. A consultation and imaging help determine whether it is needed and how much tooth should be exposed.
Insurance, estimates, and payment
Insurance
Dental insurance often helps cover part of the cost of a crown, depending on your deductible and annual maximum.
Estimates
Brickyard Dental Group is out-of-network, but we file claims for you and provide an estimate of your expected reimbursement before treatment begins.
Payment
Need more flexibility? CareCredit, Cherry, and iCredit Works are available for monthly payment options.

Questions about dental crowns
Ten to fifteen years is the common range, and many last considerably longer. Longevity depends mostly on grinding habits, gum health, and how well the margin is kept clean.
No. Crowns here are lab-fabricated across two appointments, with a temporary crown in between, which allows finer control over shade and fit.
The tooth is numbed for the preparation appointment, so the visit itself is comfortable. Mild sensitivity to hot and cold while the temporary is in place is normal and settles once the permanent crown is cemented.
Most dental plans cover a share of crown treatment after a deductible, up to an annual maximum. The front office verifies your benefits and files the claim even though the practice is out of network.
If enough healthy root and tooth structure remain, keeping the natural tooth under a crown is almost always preferable. When a fracture runs into the root, or the bone support is gone, an implant becomes the better long-term answer.
