Dr. Michael D. Barno joined Brickyard Dental Group in 2013 after serving five years as a dentist in the United States Army. A graduate of The Citadel with a degree in Biology, he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina on a full scholarship and completed graduate studies in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University.
Dr.Barno went on to complete an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, focusing on comprehensive care, oral surgery, and complex treatment planning. He is an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and an active member of the American Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.
His professional interests include full-mouth reconstruction, implant surgery, IV sedation, and complex restorative cases. Dr. Barno is the only general dentist in the Midlands who routinely uses a dental operating microscope, allowing him to deliver an unparalleled level of precision and care.
Since 2020, Dr. Barno has served as adjunct clinical faculty at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, training postdoctoral residents in implant surgery, IV sedation, bone grafting, and advanced treatment planning.
A veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, Dr. Barno was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge for his service with the 25th Infantry Division. He maintains certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and IV sedation to ensure patients receive safe, stress-free dental care.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Barno is an accomplished sculptor and founder of Star of the West Sculpture Studio. He lives in Blythewood with his wife, Michaela—manager of the Blythewood Farmers Market—and their two sons. The family are members of Blythewood Presbyterian Church.
